Thanks for taking the time to check me out. Now, I’m a retired guy who did consulting for a career. But my passion for creating this stuff began in 8th grade wood shop. I learned the basics and made a few things that were cool. Speed through the next 15 years of college and grad school until I bought a house.
Then I finally had the space to start acquiring my own saws and tools. Even added a lathe for making bowls. And a few years ago upgraded some saws and broke into diode lasers. Started small and then of course had to upgrade that too!

How it all started
My passion started with making segmented bowls. It’s a long process of alternating different wood species to yield contrast into planks. Then they are cut into many, many pieces. The bottom is alternately cut to make opposing “pieces of pizza”, as the bottom clearly has to be solid. Then more pieces are hand-glued together to make rings. One by one the rings are glued onto the base and turned on the lathe. Then the next ring is glued and turned, etc. Just use wider little pieces for the bigger rings and design the bowl as you go.

Once I added the laser, I started making all kinds of things. I started with a multi-layer Tennessee sign. I made a few and folks told me you ought to sell those. So, I did, and last fall, leading up to Christmas, I couldn’t make them fast enough. Also made bigger versions and even made a monster 58” wide Tennessee sign that is 8-layered. Extra layers were added to mount lights into. It’s remote-controlled and lights can be any color. This IS Tennessee, so I keep them orange!

Customers kept asking for different things, so I started adding other states. I can use 1/8” or ¼” basswood and sometimes hardwoods depending on availability. The quarter inch gives more depth and perspective, but the wood is more expensive and takes much longer to cut and engrave.

I’m also open to doing custom things too. Some clients specify other colors and I can burn/engrave in pretty much any text, size, or font. I put “Made In Tennessee” in a circle on everything I make unless you ask me not to. I can make pretty much any size of box (within reason) with finger joints, hinged top, and whatever you want engraved on it. Some of the items you see here were made custom for clients. We went back and forth, between sharing what they wanted, I’d share back drafts, and once agreed, they were created. So, if you have an idea, just shoot me an email!
